Budgen Motors proud to continue sponsorship of world tennis tournament

We are delighted to announce that we are once again a main sponsor of the ITF World Tennis Tour W60 Shrewsbury, being held at The Shrewsbury Club between 30th March and 5th April.

This will be the second year we have sponsored the $60,000 tournament, and we are excited to see the return of top international tennis to Shrewsbury. Outside of the grass court season, this is the biggest women’s tennis event in the UK in 2020, with The Shrewsbury Club hosting for the second successive year. Last year, Russian ace Vitalia Diatchenko, currently ranked 91 in the world, was crowned singles champion.

Leading British players such as Heather Watson, Katie Boulter, and Harriet Dart, plus top international stars, are expected to feature in a strong line-up who will compete to take home the brand-new Citroën Trophy, which has been specially commissioned.

Also new for this year, The Shrewsbury Club has teamed up with Shropshire Festivals to give this year’s tournament a festival feel. Expect to see extra hospitality evenings and fun interactive events for all the family, including a fan zone day on semi-finals day, with interactive games such as fastest serve. Celebrity chef Marcus Bean will also be preparing a two-course meal at the VIP lunch on finals day.

Tennis ball trail

If you simply can’t wait until the tournament starts, then you’ll be pleased to know that during the lead-up you can take part in a family tennis ball trail in Shrewsbury town centre.

Running between 17th February and 19th April, you can join the hunt for 12 caricatures of colourful four-foot-high tennis balls (one sponsored by Budgen) – painted by students from Shrewsbury – at key locations in the town centre. If you complete the trail, you have the chance to win some fantastic prizes!
