Double delight: MG and Renault take prizes at the 2024 What Car? Awards

It was a memorable evening at the 2024 What Car? Awards, with two brands represented by Budgen scooping up the main accolades, with three more of our brands being crowned in the ‘Also consider’ awards. Seeing our brands’ success in one of the most influential and trusted award groups in the car industry is something that we’re extremely proud of.

Let’s take a closer look at the models that won big on the night!

Renault

Renault swept in and clinched two top accolades, the first one going to the Renault Clio 1.0 TCe 90 Techno for Small Car of the Year. Already renowned as a reliable and efficient small car, the Clio’s makeover propelled it to new heights. ‘Practical, economical and well-equipped’ were just a few of the praises What Car? had to say about this model. The crisp graphics and selection of shortcuts on the Clio’s updated and modern 7-inch digital display, impressed their way to the top prize, overtaking the Honda Jazz and Škoda Fabia on their way.

With the recent Reader’s Choice trophy at Which Car’s? Electric Car Awards already in hand, the Renault 5 continues its winning streak by picking up yet another award. This time storming through the competition from a 14-car shortlist to claim the Reader’s Choice Award for Car of the Year. The new electric hatchback gained widespread approval through its electric range, quick-charge capability, modern 9-inch infotainment screen and spacious interior.

MG

Our second brand success came at the hands of MG, where the MG 4 EV SE was voted Small Electric Car of the Year. This brilliant five-door electric hatchback wowed judges with its ability to achieve high levels of practicality in a car that is less than 4.5 metres long, far surpassing its Honda Jazz and Vauxhall Corsa Electric rivals. This model’s upright shape, smooth handling, spacious interior with enough boot space to cater for family adventures and 218-mile range meant that it ticked all boxes as a reliable everyday use vehicle. The compliments didn’t end there for the MG 4 EV SE, heralded for its affordability and seven-year warranty gave it even more of an edge over its competitors, making it an unquestionable victor.
